Batu Pahat Eat: Han Kee Cake & Cafe (汉记面包西果店) Breads, Buns & Cakes

Han Kee Cake & Cafe (汉记面包西果店), located in Taman Banang of Batu Pahat Town, is just two units from Local Aroma Cafe (道香咖啡馆) and similarly a bakery-cafe that specialises in breads, buns and cakes. It is well-known and very popular to locals and Malaysian travellers. It is a great place to go for breakfast.

Han Kee’s kopi-O, with less sugar, is aromatic and has a unique mellow-sweet flavour. There are two sizes of nasi lemak placed on the tables for self-service. The big-size ones are in tall packets with sharp peaks. The small-size ones often run out very fast as they are easier to pair with other confections.

Han Kee’s Toasted Bread with Egg & Otak-Otak is one of their hot-sellers and available in either small or big sizes. The (small-size) long bread is not just grilled on the outside but on the insides too before laying with fried egg and mild-spicy otak-otak. It has nice aroma and delicious.

The Roti Bakar (traditional toasts) is lightly grilled to give it a charcoal-grilled aroma and retaining most of its softness. Thinly spread with kaya but has large cuts of butter, the toasts is more buttery than sweet. Don’t miss this too.

Aside from breads and buns, Han Kee’s different makes of cake are must-try too. They are said to be of low sweetness and well-like by elderly locals too. Unlike most Swiss rolls that are usually on the sweet side, the Black Sesame Swiss Roll Cake is mildly sweet and carries a mellow black sesame flavour.
