Go Noodle House (有间面馆) is a restaurant chain that has many outlets throughout Malaysia, including Johor Bahru, and in Singapore too. The restaurant specialises in a variety of noodle dishes using their homemade mi xian (米线), or Chinese rice noodle, and “bursting” meatballs (爆浆肉丸). The noodle house is also recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records for most bursting meatballs and bowls of mi xian sold in a year.
Go Noodle House’s popular dishes are highlighted in the “All Time Favourite” section of their menu. It is easy to notice that most of the items are traditional noodle dishes — and dumplings too.
The Bursting Meatballs with Kolo Mee in Hakka Sauce is served with 4 of Go Noodle House’s signature meatballs on curly kolo mee dry-tossed in Hakka sauce (fragrant oil, shallot, etc) and added with minced pork, pork lard, greens and chopped spring onion. The texture of the kolo mee is crunchy and with nice fragrance from the white sauce. This is similar to Sarawak kolo mee.
The Bursting Meatball (镇店爆浆丸) is juicy, or “burst”, on biting and has nice sesame oil aroma and rich, savoury flavours. It is tender with a bouncy texture. This is indeed delicious.
The Beef Combo Soup Noodle (四宝鲜汤面) with mi xian (rice noodle) is served with thin slices of beef, beef balls, tendons and minced beef in light broth. A spoonful of chopped spring onions and coriander adds flavour to the soup with optional addition of a piece of lime. The round Yunnan rice noodle, unlike thick rice vermicelli, is smooth and silky with slight chewiness and yet easy to break apart on biting. The beefy ingredients are fresh and tender and enhanced further by the sour-spicy sambal chilli dipping sauce.
Go Noodle House also has an outlet in Toppen Shopping Centre. Its outlet on Level 6 of JB City Square is temporary closed due to renovation of the shopping centre.
