Hidangan Formosa Naruwan (那鲁湾台湾面馆), or “Naruwan Formosa Cuisine”, hails from the Taiwanese island of Penghu (澎湖), serving authentic Taiwan-inspired dishes. The noodle house is popular for its signature beef noodles, braised pork rice, and dumplings, offering Taiwanese food experience in a casual dining environment.

“Naruwan” (那鲁湾) is a greeting from the Taiwanese indigenous Amis language that roughly translates to “Welcome,” “How are you?” or “Hello”. And “Formosa” (福尔摩沙), in this context, is the old name for Taiwan. Hidangan is Malay for “dish”. Thus, “Hidangan Formosa Naruwan” roughly means “Welcome to Taiwanese cuisine”.

Formosa Naruwan serves a number of Taiwanese delights, including Taiwanese-style beef noodle with different flavours and also a premium noodle dish using stewed wagyu beef (和牛). There are also a variety of noodle and rice dishes, a wide range of meat dumplings with different flavours and cooked dishes, including sliced pork with garlic sauce (蒜泥白肉), three-cup chicken (三杯鸡), etc.

The Original Stewed Beef Noodle (原味牛肉面) is served with broad-flat noodle, braised beef shank, radish, carrot and greens in dark broth — typical of Taiwanese beef noodle — and garnished with scallions. Preserved mustard is served separately as a side dish — I added a braised egg too. The beef broth is rich and flavourful and the chunky braised beef shanks, including the tendons, are very soft and tender. The preserved mustard is sweet-savoury, not salty and I added all of it into the broth to increase the flavours. This is delicious!
