On the Road Cafe is a cozy, long-standing coffee house occupying two shop units in Johbase City Square in Kluang town. The cafe offers several interesting traditional dishes, light bites, and also creative cheesecakes with unique flavours.
The cosy cafe is a nice place to spend a couple of hours with cheesecake, nice coffee and meals too. Aside from several traditional dishes, the cafe also serves western dishes and light bites. Their range of nicely-decorated cheesecakes with different flavours, displayed in glass shelves at the counter, are a must to try.
Aside from several espresso-based latte coffees, there are flavoured lattes too. The Green Tea Cafe Latte (绿茶拿铁) has a mellow green tea aroma and flavour without stealing the show from the latte coffee. A nice cup of coffee.
The Rice Wine Mee Suah Soup (黄酒鸡蛋面线汤) has a sunny-side-up egg, chunky minced meat and black fungus on mee sua (wheat vermicelli) in flavourful soup. The soup is flavoured with fragrant rice wine and ginger, sweetened with wolf berries and garnished with spring onions. It is an aromatic dish with strong winey flavour and pleasantly tasty. No wonder this dish is so popular.
The cafe’s cheesecakes are not very big, and their prices are cheaper than other cafes — this allow customers to go for more flavours rather than one sliced cake each.
The Sweet Potato Cheesecake has a distinctive sweet potato flavour and not too cheesy. The cake has a firmer texture that offers some bites rather than melt in the mouth. This is the first time I tried a cheesecake with sweet potato flavour and it is really special and nice. I am tempted to try all the other cheesecakes too.
For big groups of at least 4 pax, go for On the Road Cafe’s Cheesecake Platter (芝士蛋糕拼盘) comprising of 8 slices of cheesecake with different flavours.
