Kluang Eat: Four Beans / 4Beans (四夕豆花) Taiwanese Soya Pudding Desserts

Four Beans / 4Beans (四夕豆花), a dessert chain that originated in Johor, specialises in varieties of Taiwanese-style soy beancurd / soya pudding desserts (豆花) using 4 kinds of non-genetically modified soy beans to create the best soy beancurd taste. It was awarded the Malaysia Superior Restaurant title in 2023. The dessert chain has several outlets across Malaysia, with its Kluang outlet located right next to Tangkak Beef Restaurant.

The Kluang outlet is rather spacious and uses simple decorations. Interestingly, there is a “Girl Friend Menu (女友菜单)” on what to order if your “girlfriend” cannot decide on which dessert to go for.

Four Beans (四夕豆花): Interior & Girlfriend Menu

Four Beans has a wide range of cold desserts using tofu fa (soya pudding / beancurd). There are classic, signature, fruit series, limited-period “World of Taro” series (芋见你系列), etc, and custom beancurd with a choice of 3 toppings. Other than soy beancurd, there are shaved ice desserts and Taiwanese street food too.

The chilled Signature Soy Beancurd (招牌宝岛豆花) is served with separate servings of brown sugar syrup, cold soy milk (unsweetened) and finely-ground peanuts for adjusting the taste of the dessert according to personal likings — the syrup for sweetness, soy milk and peanut powder for flavours. The velvety soya beancurd has a nice texture and added with a number of toppings — peach gum, snow nest, mixed taro balls, mini taro balls, glass jellies, gingko nuts and honey pearls. It is a cool, flavourful dessert with low-sweetness and Taiwanese’s favourite soft, chewy taro and potato balls, and honey pearls.

The Matcha Ball Tofu Fa (抹茶芋圆豆花) is served in similar fashion as the Signature Tofu Fa with its 3 condiments to adjust the tastes of the dessert. The smooth soy beancurd is topped with matcha pudding in the centre and surrounded by matcha balls, jade rice balls and red beans. The matcha balls are not sweetened and has rich matcha flavour whereas the matcha pudding is mild-sweet with a mellower matcha flavour. The red beans contributed its characteristically creamy, sweet flavour. The jade rice balls offer chewiness. This soy beancurd dessert with popular matcha and red bean flavour is really nice.

Aside from the series of special flavours, the customisable Tofu Fa with 3 Toppings (三样豆花) allows picking of any 3 desired toppings — I have black sesame glutinous rice balls, mix taro balls and mini taro balls — and is served in the same style as the other soy beancurd desserts. As usual, I emptied the soy milk and peanut powder onto my dessert but only half the sweet syrup. The lukewarm rice balls have nice black sesame flavour with no bitterness and not overly sweet.

Four Beans is a great spot for chilled desserts, especially on hot days, and is one of the few dessert shops in Kluang town that are still opened in the evening time.

I have also visited its outlet in Ipoh:
