Hailam Toast’s original setup in Kluang town is located along Jalan Lambak, with another outlet in Taman Tasik Indah. Other branches can be found in Batu Pahat, Muar and Malacca.

One of Hailam Toast’s signature dishes is none other than its series of Hailam (or Hainanese) traditional toasts, and also sandwiches and croissant to go with their roasted coffee. Malaysian delights include mee siam, nasi lemak, laksa, curry chicken, etc. Hainanese chicken chop is also on the menu. New to the menu are mee soto as weekday’s special and Hailam chicken rice.

Top-left: Hailam Toast’s roasted coffee is thick, aromatic and has wonderful mouthfeel. It is non-bitter so getting a kopi-O kosong (without milk and sugar) is the best way to appreciate its flavours.

Top-right: Their best-selling Kaya Butter Croissants (咖椰牛油可颂, 2 pieces per order) has hot, crispy croissant stuffed with melting kaya and slices of butter. It has well-balanced sweet-savoury flavour and the toasted croissants are crispier than traditional toasts.

Bottom-left: The Soft-Boiled Eggs are nicely-done with beautiful orange yolks and creamy, no-raw egg white.

Bottom-right: The Kaya Butter Bun is another way to enjoy sweet-savoury toasts with a different texture. The round bun carries a charcoal-toasted aroma and is crispy outside and soft inside.

The signature Hailam Chicken Chop (海南鸡扒) is served with tasty-looking chicken chop accompanied by fries, fresh salad and a Hainanese-style sauce — sweet-savoury with tomato paste and green peas in it. The tender chicken is nicely-fried and goes well with the tomato-based sauce. It is not too heavy for breakfast too.

The Mee Siam added-on with sambal sotong (squids) has mee siam with a fried sunny-side-up egg, crackers, a lime and generous amount of squids in sweet-spicy sambal chilli. The mee siam has nice sweet-savoury flavour and pairs well with the tender squids in not-too-spicy sambal chilli.

Hailam Toast is a nice, popular spot to go for traditional coffee and toasts in the morning and local dishes in the afternoon.
