Singapore Buy: Bao’s Pastry (鲍师傅糕点) @ Westgate

Bao’s Pastry (鲍师傅糕点) is a viral Beijing bakery chain famous for its signature seaweed floss cake (or xiaobei, 小贝), chewy butter mochi, and lava cheese tarts, often infusing traditional Chinese pastries with modern twists. Founded in 2004, the Beijing brand has expanded to over 100 locations across China and also to Singapore with its first outlet in Paya Lebar Square in May 2025. It opened its second and largest outlet in Westgate (Jurong East) in October 2025.

The Original-Flavour Cream Puff (原味泡芙) is sold in 250 grams per box, containing around 9 pieces but quantity may vary depending on weight. Each cream puff is filled with light cream in a puffy pastry and topped with pineapple-like, crispy cookie crust — like a mini polo bun (or pineapple bun, 菠萝包). It is an interesting twist that adds extra crispiness to the mild-sweet cream puff. One more thing, the puffs are “one-bite” size — put them in the mouth fully before biting, else, the light cream will “fly away”.

The Sponge Mooncake (蛋月饼), sold in 2 pieces per box, is a unique pastry that has the appearance of a mooncake — in time for the upcoming Mid Autumn Festival. Its muffin-like, spongy crust is filled with molten black glutinous rice paste — like eating bubur pulut hitam (black glutinous rice dessert, but without the coconut milk) in a muffin. It is mildly sweet with a unique flavour combination.
