Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee (亚王咖喱鸡米粉面), located in Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, is a famous hawker stall serving its signature curry bee hoon mee, renowned for its rich, balanced broth and tender Hainanese-style chicken. It was first recognised by Singapore Michelin Guide in 2016. Established by Ah Heng in 1967, the stall is now managed by the second generation with several branches in Singapore.
The stall serves Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee, just one dish. Bee hoon mee is Hokkien for rice vermicelli (bee hoon) and yellow noodle (mee), which is the default, but you can specify other types of noodles. The dish is available in small / medium / large size with different cuts of chicken meat (breast, chicken wing, thigh) according to the size. A side of chicken feet can be added-on too.
The small-size Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee (咖喱鸡米粉面) is served with poached chicken breast meat, soft potatoes, fishcake slices, bean sprouts and lots of tofu puffs on selected noodle(s) in coconut-milk-infused curry broth that nearly covers the whole dish. The curry broth carries a nice curry fragrant with distinct hint of coconut milk and has well-balanced tastes of sweet-savouriness and mild spiciness — chilli paste can be added separately but it adds more flavours rather than just spiciness. The chicken cuts are soft and tender. And, best of all, the numerous tofu puffs soak up the flavourful broth and let it out in the mouth. The dish is indeed delicious.
Before joining the queue at Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee’s original stall, look across the staircase landing to the left of the stall, Ah Heng’s nearest branch is just beside that landing. It has effectively reduced the frequent long queues.
