Lian He Ben Ji Claypot Rice (联合本记煲饭), established in 1979, is a renowned food stalls in Chinatown Complex Food Centre for its claypot rice dishes with chicken, Chinese sausage or combination of both, cooked over charcoal fire. Stewed soups are also available to go with the rice dishes. The stall has been recommended by Singapore Michelin Guide since 2018. Each claypot rice is cooked on order and expect to wait for at least 30 minutes — and longer during peak hours.

The Chicken Claypot Rice (滑鸡饭) is served piping hot with a smoky aroma. Chicken meat and vegetable are laid on top of fragrant rice, which is already dribbled with some sauce. The chicken looks so meaty, pure (white) and smooth.

Sweetened dark sauce and oil need to be added, as desired, to the dish and stir thoroughly before eating. Some crispy scorched rice are already formed at the bottom.
The rice exhibits a nice claypot aroma and taste. The smooth chicken is really soft, tender and juicy with added flavours from the sweet sauce. Saltiness of the dish is just-nice — since I have gone easy on the dark sauce, adding it sparingly. It is a delicious dish that is worth the wait.

I wonder why I did not try Lian He Ben Ji’s Mixed Rice (什锦饭), with both chicken and Chinese sausage, which will allow me to have two flavours at one go — or maybe a whole new flavour entirely. I will plan another visit.
