Wen Chang Kee Hainanese Chicken Rice (文昌记海南鸡饭), a hawker chain, offers traditional Hainanese chicken rice and roasted delights (roasted chicken, roasted pork and char siew). It has several outlets across Singapore and the newest one is opened in Broadway Coffee Shop in Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre.
The Roasted Platter Rice (烤拼盘饭) is served with roasted chicken, roasted pork and char siew on chicken stock-infused rice with a whole braised egg. The soft, tender roasted chicken is dribbled with fragrant oil and light soy sauce, char siew with sweet char siew sauce and the roasted pork has crispy skin, not salty and with soft, tender texture. It is a dish to go for all three roasted flavours and can be quite meaty.
The Char Siew Wanton Noodle (叉烧云吞面) is served with its tender char siew slices on springy egg noodle, with pak choy, and tossed in dark, savoury oil-sauce. The meat dumplings with savoury meat fillings in soft wanton skins accompany the noodle dish in a separate bowl of soup. It is nice too.
Aside from wanton noodle and noodle / rice dishes with roasted meats, Wen Chang Kee offers curry chicken noodle and soups too.
