Xin Hai Feast (心海宴) is a casual, airy zi char and live seafood restaurant located on the second floor of Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre & Market in the west of Singapore. It is well-regarded for its fresh, affordable seafood dishes and customers can pick live crabs, lobsters, fish, and oysters straight from the tanks. Xin Hai Feast is opened all day, serving traditional toasts, coffee, stir-fried noodle / rice dishes, etc, during the day and zi char dishes from afternoon onwards.

Xin Hai Feast’s September & October promotion is all about prawns, in 7 different cooking styles, and we tried three of them on two occasions.
Top-right: The HK-Style Garlic & Dried Chilli Prawn (港式避风塘虾) is a well-known “typhoon shelter” dish for its crispiness and tastiness. The big fresh prawns are stir-fried with crispy bits, garlic nibs, shallots, dried chilli, pepper, etc. It is delicious with tasty flavours of the condiments — should try their “typhoon shelter” crabs next time.
Bottom-left: The Pan-Fried Prawns (干煎虾禄) is another tasty dish but sweet, savoury sauce this time. Similarly, the big prawns are pan-fried without much oil till the shells turned soft and can be eaten without peeling.
Bottom-right: The Salted Egg Prawn (咸蛋虾) is slightly crispy with savoury salted egg flavour and mild spiciness — only if chewed on the sliced chillies. Yummy.

The Black Pepper Beef (黑胡椒牛肉) has beef slices quick-fried with black pepper, sauce, shallots, green and red pepper slices, and some greens. The soft, tender beef slices have smooth savoury black pepper flavour and is delicious.

The Pork Ribs (排骨王) is served with small cuts of pork ribs fried in sweet sauce and sprinkled with white sesame seeds. The pork ribs have more meat than bones and very tender.

The Crispy Roasted Chicken (脆皮烧鸡), paired with crispy crackers and topped with crispy dough bits, has tender meat and crispy skin. It is a lighter tasting dish as compared to the tastier dishes above.

The Chilli Crab + Mantou (辣椒螃蟹+馒头) is a special promotional dish available for a limited period. The Singapore-favourite dish is served with sweet-spicy eggy gravy (typically for chilli crabs) in a bowl with fresh crab meat and some fried buns for dipping in the gravy. It is like eating a scaled-down version of a chilli crab dish without hard crab shells to crack. The gravy is quite a lot and we use it to flavour our rice too.

Top-left: The Golden Pumpkin Beancurd (皇焖金针菇豆腐) is served with a big piece of fried silken beancurd, added with fat crunchy prawns, drenched in pumpkin-infused gravy and topped with deep-fried enoki mushrooms. It is a delightful dish to balance the tastier dishes.
Top-right: The Sweet & Sour Pork (咕噜肉) has crispy balls of fried pork coated in well-balanced sweet-sour sauce and added with cuts of crunchy cucumber, onion and tomato. The lean pork meat has a nice texture without being too hard from over-frying or too soft with too much fatty meat.
Bottom-left: The Salt & Pepper White Bait (椒盐白饭鱼) has deep-fried white bait / silver fishes cooked in near-similar condiments as the HK-Style Garlic & Dried Chilli Prawn that add crispiness and tasty flavours (without dried chilli and shallots) to the crispy fried fishes.
Bottom-right: And, a dish of Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (叁巴番薯叶) to complete the “feast”. The sweet potato leaves are nicely-fried with spicy sambal chilli and is slightly on the spicier side but tasteful and delicious.

The dishes that we tried at Xin Hai Feast are really good and affordable. They offer regular promotions — do refer to their Facebook for upcoming / running promotions and don’t miss their delicious cookings.
