Hong Lim Market and Food Centre (芳林巴刹与熟食中心), built in 1978, is one of the oldest and most legendary hawker centres in Singapore. Located in Chinatown, right beside Chinatown Point, this bustling two-storey complex houses over a hundred stalls serving affordable, popular local cuisine. The food centre is easily accessible via Chinatown MRT Station.
Hong Lim Food Centre serves mainly office workers and tourists and is very crowded during lunch time with long queues snaking from popular stalls, including those recognised by Singapore Michelin Guide. Thus, it will be better to go before 11am (on weekdays) for brunch or in the mid-afternoon — but, popular stalls may sell out before lunch is over — to beat the crowds. Most stalls tend to close on Sunday, Monday or public holidays, so do check the operating hours of desired stalls before going.
While most of the stalls offer food and beverages and are dispersed throughout the food centre, a number of stalls offering pastries, like curry puffs, muffins, min jiang kueh, lava cakes, etc, are congregated in one section. Find it and take back some desserts / snacks after your meals.
