The Toast (土司坊), located in a new commercial estate next to Pelangi Leisure Mall in Taman Pelangi, is popular for its toasts and mee Siam. The Nanyang kopitiam is recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records for “most number of mee Siam sold in a year”.

The Toast serves a wide variety of traditional toasts, sandwiches, and Malaysian delights, including mee Siam, nasi lemak, fried rice, fried noodles, Chinese dishes, etc. Their range of traditional kopi is great to go with the dishes too.

The classic Butter-Kaya Toast (牛油咖椰) is charcoal-grilled with a nice aroma and crispy yet still retain some softness in it. The amount of kaya and butter are well balanced so the toast is neither too sweet nor cloying. There are options to add more butter or kaya and also peanut — personally, the normal amount is nice.

The toast is always best to pair with traditional kopi-O and soft-boiled eggs. On hot days, the iced hor ga sai (虎咬狮冰) with Milo-brand chocolate flavour and mildly sweet is just perfect.

"The

The chef-recommended Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Meat (炸鸡腿肉椰浆饭) is served with deep-fried chicken thigh meat, a fried egg, fried peanuts and anchovies, slices of cucumber and sambal chilli on aromatic coconut-milk-flavoured rice. The chicken meat is nicely-fried till crispy outside yet retained its tenderness and juiciness. The sambal chilli has the right level of spiciness that does not make the nasi lemak too spicy.

The Duck Egg Char Kway Teow (鸭蛋炒粿条) uses mainly broad-flat noodle to stir-fried with fresh prawns, slices of fish cake, beansprouts and, of course, duck egg. The duck egg enhances the fried noodle dish with richer flavours than chicken egg. This is one tasty dish to try.

Since The Toast is popular for its mee Siam, I will try one of those next time.
