Singapore Eat: Ho Yeah Nasi Lemak (好耶椰浆饭) @ Bukit Batok

Ho Yeah Nasi Lemak (好耶椰浆饭), established in 2019, is a popular Singaporean hawker brand that specialises in nasi lemak (coconut-milk-infused rice), with a twist from classic Malay-style nasi lemak, featuring fragrant coconut rice, homemade sambal chilli, and crispy, tender fried chicken. Their special rice sets come with options for “Fried Egg (煎蛋)” or “Omelette Egg (蛋包饭)”.

The hawker brand has several outlets in Singapore and one of them is located in Superluck Foodcourt (运胜食阁) — opposite Le Quest Shopping Mall in Bukit Batok West.

Ho Yeah’s nasi lemak is served with fragrant coconut-milk-infused rice, crunchy fried peanuts, crispy ikan bilis (anchovies), slices of cucumber and sambal chilli. The homemade sambal chilli has nice flavours and is sweet-spicy. This is the basic set (or Set 1), without pre-assigned meat, but the meat and other ingredients (luncheon meat, fishcake, beancurd, fish fillet, etc) can be added from the trays in the glass shelf — in other words, a customisable set.

The Nasi Lemak with Chicken Drumstick and Fried Egg comes with a hot fried chicken drumstick that is tender with crispy, nicely-flavoured batter, non-greasy and not salty. The fried egg is nicely-done with a runny yolk. Aside from fried chicken drumstick, there are options with chicken wing, chicken thigh and chicken cutlet as well.

The Nasi Lemak Set with Curry Chicken and Omelette Egg is served with the coconut-flavoured rice wrapped (not covered) in a big, thin sheet of omelette — made with two eggs, probably. A separate bowl of curry gravy comes with a tender chicken drumstick and soft potatoes. The curry gravy is rich, creamy and mildly spicy — I used it with the omelette rice instead of adding sambal chilli. Unlike typical nasi lemak dish, this gives a different taste experience.

Ho Yeah Nasi Lemak operates very much like an economic bee hoon stall but nasi lemak is used in place of stir-fried rice vermicelli. It is a great concept and adding more options for diners.
