Nictar owns a pineapple plantation in Pekan Nanas (the “Pineapple Town”) of Pontian District, Johor. It also operates an eco-farm, called Nictar Pineapple Park, in Pekan Nanas, which is a pineapple-centric premise for producing and selling pineapple-based products. The park also offers visitors, especially kids, an immersive look at pineapple cultivation, guided farm tours and a retail section for its fresh pineapple-based products.

Purchasing of Nictar’s pineapple products used to be direct at the park, the great news is: Nictar has setup a retail kiosk in Carton King Street Mall in Taman Century, near KSL City Mall. For buying of their pineapple-based products only, it is now more convenient to visit the kiosk. Products available at the kiosk include pineapple juice, jam, hot / mild chilli dipping sauces, spicy / sweet & sour cooking sauces and dried pineapple snack — except fresh pineapples and pineapple tarts.

Nictar’s Pineapple Jam (凤梨果酱) has a smooth pineapple flavour pretty similar to the real fruit without the “sharp” sensation of fresh pineapples (caused by bromelain). It may not be obvious but calamansi was actually added to give the jam a refreshing, citrusy taste note. The jam is low in sweetness — eat half a teaspoon direct from the bottle and you will know what I mean — since no sugar is added and neither is artificial colourings, flavourings nor preservatives.

The Pineapple Juice (凤梨汁) — sold as single bottle or in boxes of 6 or 12 bottles — is pure pineapple juice with no sugar nor other additives added. There are pineapple pulps in the drink so shake well before drinking. The juice carries a nice pineapple aroma, rich in pineapple flavour with natural sweetness and tastes like freshly-squeezed. One is not enough, I bought a box of six.
On a side note, I had also tried Nictar’s pineapple juice with peel before which is quite unique in flavour, but I don’t see it in the glass shelves. Maybe it is not the season for that specific pineapple varietal which the peel can be used to make juice, and I hope to see them on the shelves again.

Nictar’s pineapple farm cultivates around 7 varietals of Malaysian pineapples round the year. The pineapples are seasonal and not all varietals are available throughout the year, so the pineapple-based products may have some variations in flavour, texture and sweetness. Do visit Nictar Pineapple Park to learn more.
Nictar’s kiosk @ Carton King Street Mall may not be manned at times but is usually opened. If interested to buy any of the products on display and no staff are in sight, do approach Carton King Restaurant’s staff for assistance.
