Lynns Food & Beverage / Lynns Nanyang Kitchen (南洋厨房) is well-known for its “paper boat” cold-boiled / roasted chicken rice and other Nanyang specialties including Nanyang coffee, traditional toasts, Nyonya kuehs. The main outlet of Lynns F&B is located in Sutera Mall and the second outlet is in Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk.

The restaurant at Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk is rather spacious and has a bright and comfortable environment.

Lynns Nanyang Kitchen serves both roasted chicken (烧鸡) and cold-boiled chicken (冰镇白斩鸡) as its signature dishes with either rice, noodle or porridge. Other range of chicken dishes include curry chicken noodle, chicken gyoza noodle, etc, and also side dishes to complement the main dishes. Lynns also serve their homemade Nyonya kuihs (or kuehs) and Hainanese kopi, soft-boiled eggs and various toast sets as well suited for breakfast. There are discounts for a series of combo sets too.

The restaurant’s Signature Paper Boat Roasted Chicken Rice (招牌纸船烧鸡饭) is served on a paper-folded boat with pickled vegetables. The fragrant rice is well-cooked with chicken stock, light brownish in colour and has rich flavours of the stock. The roasted chicken is not dry and has retained its tenderness and juiciness. This chicken rice dish is similar but not entirely the same as that in Singapore and offers a different taste experience — and appealing presentation too.

The Cold-Boiled Chicken Noodle (冰镇白斩鸡干捞面) is another way to go for their “paper boat” chicken dishes, pairing cold-boiled chicken with dry-tossed noodle and added with pickled salad. The cold-boiled chicken is served slightly chilled and is very smooth and tender. The thin noodle is dry-tossed in fragrant shallot oil, sweet-savoury dark sauce and fried shallot which give the noodle a mellow, comforting flavour. The noodle is surprisingly very springy with nice crunchiness and chewiness and goes well with the tender chicken meat. This is delicious too and seriously a must to try. Oh, the soup is different too — rich and flavourful with hints of sweet cabbage.

The colourful Nyonya kuehs are laid out on a shelf hanging on a wall near the counter. There are various types of kueh to choose from, some sweet, some savoury and each type of kueh will have their unique flavours. The kuehs are sold in 2 pieces per order and nice to dine-in with Lynn’s traditional kopi, as dessert or take away.

The next visit to Lynns Nanyang Kitchen will probably be in a morning to go for their traditional toasts or the long list of items that are added to the menu progressively. And, best of all, the food prices are very affordable, more so with their super value combo sets.
