Singapore Eat: AA Roasted Delights (AA烧腊.鸡饭) Herbal Roasted Duck @ Bukit Batok

AA Roasted Delights (AA烧腊.鸡饭), a food stall in Foodgle Hub (福哥) coffee shop in Bukit Batok West, serves dishes with roasted delights, especially their signature dang gui roasted duck (当归烧鸭). On its menu, a number of dishes with rice / thin noodle / hor fun (河粉) can be paired with roasted duck, steamed / roasted chicken, char siew (barbecue pork), roasted pork and also char siew + roasted pork. Side dishes like braised eggs, braised tofu, and oyster sauce vegetable are available too.

The Roasted Duck Noodle (烧鸭面) uses thin noodle tossed in a delightful sauce with fragrant oil. The noodle is nicely-done with slight crunchiness and chewiness and does not lump together. The tender roasted duck has beautiful reddish skin and carries a nice aroma and mellow herbal flavour of angelica sinensis (dang gui / 当归). It is a nice dish that I have enjoyed many times.

At times, go for a roasted duck thigh with noodle or rice. The well-roasted duck features a prominent herbal fragrance, while its lean, tender thigh meat delivers a burst of savoury juice mixed with rich duck oil. And, if you love eating duck thigh in whole with hand, request for uncut.

The Char Siew & Roasted Pork Noodle (叉烧烧肉面) is a similar dry-tossed noodle dish to go with tender char siew with roasty flavour and roasted pork with crispy skin. Not forgetting to add a little of the fragrant and crispy chilli that is not too spicy and with a familiar taste that often accompanies roasted delights.

The Roasted Chicken Noodle (烧鸡面) has roasted chicken on the same delicious thin noodle. The roasted chicken has nicely roasted skin and the meat is tender, not too dry and still retained its juiciness. The soup, sprinkled with fried shallots, has nice flavours and sweetness of white cabbage.

The Hainanese-style Steamed Chicken Rice (白鸡饭) is served with deboned steamed chicken, dribbled with light sauce, on aromatic chicken-stock-flavoured rice. The steamed chicken meat is smooth, tender and non-fatty. Together with the white cabbage soup, the dish makes a decent and cheap meal. Go for chicken drumstick for much tender meat.

Aside from steamed chicken rice, all the roasted delights can be paired with rice. Needless to say, roasted chicken and steamed chicken are paired with chicken-stock-infused rice and roasted duck, roasted pork and char siew are paired with white rice and dribbled with a mild-sweet sauce (optional).
