Moonlight Cake House is a Halal-certified bakery and cafe chain in Malaysia, known for offering a wide variety of innovative, visually appealing artisanal cakes, pastries, breads, etc. Established with a commitment to quality, it has grown from its roots in Johor Bahru to numerous locations across Johor, Kuala Lumpur, and Selangor. In Johor Bahru, Moonlight Cake House has presence in KSL City Mall, Taman Sutera Utama, Permas Jaya, Bukit Indah (with a cafe), etc, and also in Kulai.

Instead of simply laying their breads and pastries in glass shelves, Moonlight Cake House actually puts up product boards to explain the ingredients used in their top-selling breads. Several of the breads are low-oil and low-sugar, which make healthier choices without compromising flavours. It was the well-presented display boards that first attracted my attention and spurred me to start trying their breads.

The Dark Chia Grain Bread is one of the top-sellers with lots of nutritious ingredients. The low-oil, low-sugar, fibre-rich rye bread is stuffed with pumpkin seeds, walnut, red azuki beans (cooked, of course), multi-grains (oats, white sesame seeds, chia seeds, etc). The soft bread has low sweetness with crunchiness from the nuts and seeds. It is really good.

The Saha is another top-seller with soft, airy bread that is baked with raisins, walnuts and filled with cheddar cheese. Another low-oil and low-sugar bread, it has rich flavours, nutritious and low in sweetness.

Top-left: The Europe Bun is baked with raisins, walnuts and black sesame seeds. It is very soft, nicely flavoured, ultra-low sweetness and can be eaten on its own without any spread as well.
Top-right: The Wolfberry Walnut Bun is really unique. It has an outer skin made with green tea and has a chewier texture, which is different from the soft, airy bun. Embedded in the bun are wolf berries, walnuts and pumpkin seeds that add crunchiness. Like the other breads, it has nice mellow flavours and is another low-oil, low-sugar option.
Bottom-left: The Matcha Angel is a soft, round bun flavoured with matcha, filled with azuki beans and light cream cheese, and topped with cheese on the outer surface. As expected, it has flavours of matcha, red beans and cheese and mild sweet.
Bottom-right: The Coffee Cranberry is similarly a soft, round bun, flavoured with coffee and added with chocolate chips and walnuts. It is filled with cranberries and cream cheese. This bun is similarly flavourful and cheesy.

Top-left: The Marble Cube (8 pcs/pack) is layered and soft in texture. The brown chocolate layers give the cube-pastry a light chocolate flavour and not too sweet.
Top-right: The Cranberry Raisin Scone (3 pcs/pack) has nice buttery flavour with light sweetness from the dried cranberries — instead of adding sweetness by spreading jam and butter the English way of eating, I tried them with cream cheese which gave the scone a burst of savouriness. Also, the scone is less crumbly and easier to cut without it breaking into smaller pieces.
Bottom: The Moonlight Chicken Floss (6 pcs/pack) are mini-croissants with buttery layered skins, filled with chicken floss and added with white sesame seeds in the fillings as well as on the crusts. The butter gives the chicken floss croissant a sweet-savoury flavour with a slight note of spiciness from the floss.
These pastries are nice as snacks any time of the day.

Without doubt, Moonlight Cake House is the bakery to go for breads with wonderful flavours, low sweetness and high nutritional value. I will find an opportunity to try their impressive cakes some time.
