Wok of Home Town (锅之乡煮炒) is a zi-char / cooked food stall that is newly-opened in Foodgle Hub (福哥) in Bukit Batok West. The stall offers comforting, home-style cooked dishes that include signature dishes like Beggar’s Signature Fish Head, Japanese-style Pan-Fried Pork Ribs, Seafood Fried Vermicelli with Petai, etc.

The Seafood Fried Vermicelli with Petai (臭豆海鲜米粉), one of their signature dishes, is a fried vermicelli dish using large amount of stinky beans (petai), fish meat, prawns, crab stick, egg, shallots, cabbage to stir-fried with thin rice vermicelli. The dish has a nice wok aroma and the fresh stinky beans do not exude any undesirable smell that affects the dish, though its characteristic taste is retained. It is a unique and tasty dish. Definitely a must-try for those who like petai.

The Fried Beef Hor Fun (干炒牛河) has a really nice wok aroma when served. It uses broad rice noodle (hor fun) to stir-fried with beef, egg, cabbage and bean sprouts in dark sauce. The savoury dish is nicely done, not too oily, not salty and with tender, juicy beef. Add some lime juice for additional citrusy flavour.

The Cantonese-style San Lou Hor Fun (三捞河粉) generally uses “three tosses” to prepare the ingredients (fresh fish slices, bean sprouts, spring onions and hor fun) for the dish. It is then served drenched in light savoury gravy with mild viscosity. It has a smooth, mellow savouriness that enhances the flavour of the fresh fish slices.

The correct pronunciation of “San Lou Hor Fun (三捞河粉)” should be “Saam Loh Hor Fun” in Cantonese, meaning “three tosses” when preparing the ingredients for the noodle dish. The dish should not be confused with San Lou Mee Hoon (三楼米粉), a Johor Bahru specialty fried vermicelli dish, where “san lou” in this case means “three storeys”, in hanyu pinyin.
