The Western-food stall in Aces League 447 Coffee Shop in Bukit Batok West has changed hands twice from Rasa Western Grill to Deli Delight Hainan Western to the new Der’Rezqi Western Grill in a short span of just one year. One thing common among the three stalls is that the food portion can be quite hearty — and don’t be surprised to see “Rasa Western Grill” printed on the plates and on the pager buzzers, it’s good they reuse things.
Der’Rezqi Western Grill serves Muslim-friendly Western food using chicken and fish as main ingredients for most of their dishes with different styles. There are fried rice dishes, pasta dishes and spring chickens too. Most dishes include selection of sides from an array of six — Western dishes choose 3 and fried rice / pasta dishes choose 1.
The Hainan Chicken Chop (海南炸鸡扒) is a really big, hearty dish — including choice of 3 sides. The chicken meat is cut slightly thinner to achieve a wider spread and deep-fried with nicely-flavoured batter till crispy, and it covers nearly half the big plate. My selection of sides include fresh salad, mash potato with back pepper sauce and cheese macaroni (this is quite filling). The crispy fried chicken chop is very easy to cut, tender and juicy and the Hainanese sauce — made with tomato sauce, green peas, shallots, etc — gives the meat some sweet-savoury flavour with mild-spiciness.
The Seafood Spaghetti (海鲜意大利面) comes with choice of 1 side — I made a mistake opting for carbs-heavy crispy French fries instead of fresh salad to complement the no-vegetable pasta dish — and type of sauce — I chose aglio olio. The dish is cooked using thin spaghetti with fresh seafood (prawns, fish meat and mussels) in olive oil, fresh garlic bits and black pepper powder for spiciness. It has a mellow garlic-peppery aroma and the spaghetti is nicely-done with a nice texture, neither too soft nor too chewy. This oglio olio pasta dish is really nice.
The portion of several dishes at Der’Rezqi Western Grill can be rather big and are great choices when feeling very hungry — including spaghetti with French fries.
