Verrona Hills is a well-known premium bakery and pâtisserie chain in Malaysia celebrated for its wide array of freshly-baked, European-inspired artisanal breads, pastries, and cakes using high-quality ingredients. Its top signature items include Basque Cheese Toast, Lava Cheese Toast, Mille-feuille Toast, and various Swiss rolls.
Started in Kuala Lumpur in 2024, Verrona Hills expanded rapidly with a number of locations in major malls in the Klang Valley, Malacca and reaching Mid Valley Southkey Mall in Johor Bahru in May 2025. Two other outlets were opened in AEON Mall Tebrau City and KSL City Mall by end of 2025.
Verrona Hills is popular for its freshly baked daily items, including croissants, pastries, premium-quality cakes, and Western fusion items. Their range of colourful artisan bagels with different fillings sit in a glass shelf fronting the outlet — and it caught my attention.
I started my first try at Verrona Hills with a Purple Potato Taro Bagel and a Chicken Sausage & Cheese Bagel. Bagels are slightly larger in size as always.
The Purple Potato Taro Bagel is made to resemble a taro with purplish, cracky skin. It is light-tasting with a filling of low-sweet, potato-taro paste that gives a subtle taro flavour to the slight-chewy bagel.
Unlike the sweet-base taro bagel, the Chicken Sausage & Cheese Bagel is savoury and stronger in taste. The bagel is coated with cheese, seaweed flakes and white sesame seeds before baking. Embedded within the bagel are small cuts of chicken sausage and cheddar cheese with black pepper powder. It is a tasty treat, with natural savouriness from the ingredients used and with a hint of peppery-spiciness from the black pepper.
My random pick of two bagels gave me two contrasting flavours and a first taste of Verrona Hills’s artisanal bread. I will continue to try their products, especially their signature items, like I do for other bakeries.
