Borrman Hotel (柏曼酒店) is a mid-range business hotel brand, with several hotels in major Chinese cities like Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Chongqing, offering a mix of comfort, modern design, and convenience for both business and leisure travellers. It is positioned as an affordable luxury option, with many locations featuring 3-star to 4-star ratings.
In Chaozhou City / Teochew of Guangdong Province (广东省.潮州市), there are two Borrman Hotels and one of them is located very near to Chaozhou Ancient City (潮州古城) and the famous Paifang Street (牌坊街). The 5-storey hotel is located off Chengxin Road (成新路), behind a row of building that fronted the street, and is a pretty new hotel. This was where we stayed.
We were in Chaozhou in January 2026, during a winter season, and had booked a Standard Queen Room and a Superior Two-Bed Room at the hotel for 4 nights — on checking-in, the friendly staff upgraded my Queen Room free-of-charge to a Superior King-Bed Room so as to be on the same level as the Two-Bed Room — I really appreciate it.
The King-Bed Room is very spacious with a red corner-sofa in one corner — the Two-Bed Room has similar layout with two super-single beds but without the sofa to allow more space in the room. An open wardrobe stands near the door.
There is a small pantry in one corner and a set of tea table and chairs by the window — fortunately, the window faces a quiet neighbourhood instead of roads.
In China, tea bags are usually provided in hotel room pantries instead of instant coffee, and the tea bags served at Borrman Hotel are Chaozhou’s specialty Phoenix Dancong Tea (凤凰单丛茶), a variant of Oolong Tea. Making and sipping hot tea in the room during winter is a great enjoyment.
A nice feature about Borrman’s smart television programme is the display of the weather condition outside, especially the temperature, which is very useful in winter. A number of pre-selected, free movies are available for watching during the stay — there are paid ones also on demand.
The bathroom is pretty big as well and very clean. All toiletries are in place as expected. The more interesting item in the bathroom is the high-tech water closet, featuring a warming function for the toilet seat — another welcoming feature in winter. To flush the toilet, simply use a foot to trigger the sensor at the base of the toilet bowl.
For hotel amenities, Borrman Hotel features a common area, with free coffee from a self-service coffee machine, and a self-service storage locker. A separate dining room is for guests who want to have breakfasts in the hotel. There is also a self-service launderette that has 3 sets of washing machines and 3 sets of drying machines. All the self-service functions are free to use.
Another good thing about this Borrman Hotel is that it is shielded from traffic noises with a separate entrance that faces the street and go through a shop unit. Although majority of vehicles in China are electric-driven and produce no loud engine noises, the high density of cars and electric scooters still causes noise pollution from impatient use of horns — which is why I prefer hotels located away from roads.
Outside the hotel, there are a number of eating places that serves Chaozhou-Shantou delicacies, including beef hot pot, cheung fun, seafood porridge, oyster omelette, etc. There are more food options along and around Paifang Street. Aside from eating at and visiting Paifang Street as a tourist attraction, other attractions nearby include Guangji Bridge (广济桥) and Kaiyuan Temple (开元寺) — all accessible via Paifang Street and short walking distance from the hotel.
After a comfortable stay at Borrman Hotel, I will definitely be staying here again the next time I revisit Chaozhou. And, I will go for Borrman Hotel as first choice in other cities too — if available.
