Space Residency (乐森世纪) is a newly-built mixed development next to KSL City Mall in Taman Century, Johor Bahru, with two impressive 60-storey tall towers of serviced apartments and a third 34-storey Novotel Hotel. Interconnecting the towers, on the ground floor, is a shopping stretch called Carton King Street Mall (纸箱王商业街), featuring a ticket-free Carton King Theme Park — first of its kind in Southeast Asia, albeit smaller in scale.

Carton King Street Mall has two entrances, one below the serviced apartments facing a row of shophouses — where Yit Foh Wanton Noodle (益和面家) and Yong He Kway Teow (永和粿条) are located — and another besides Novotel Hotel’s lobby entrance, facing the main JB outlet of Kwan Kee Store (坤记糕品).
Inside the mall, shops are opening up progressively and one of the tenants is none other than Carton King (纸箱王) from Taiwan, which is officially a carton-theme restaurant. But, there are more to Carton King being just a restaurant serving Taiwanese food, it is also a shop selling paper-made gifts and operating two cardboard-made trains that run around the mall / theme park.

Carton King uses recyclable corrugated cardboards and paper in all its merchandise. The two cardboard-made little trains (纸箱小火车) are designed to ferry 10 passengers each and they will run through Carton King and loop around the entire mall. Ticket is priced at RM13 per passenger per ride.

There are cardboard-made exhibits, like dinosaurs, squarish human characters and wall decors, positioned along the railway track throughout the mall, serving as attraction stops for kids. The street mall is like a big playground — a fun place for kids.

Carton King’s gift shop offers a unique, eco-friendly shopping experience featuring durable, creatively designed paper-made merchandise. Products range from sturdy furniture and functional household items to intricate DIY models and stationery, showcasing the versatility and strength of specially processed corrugated cardboard, combining artistic design with practical, sustainable uses.

Carton King Restaurant is made mostly from cardboards — sturdy cardboard tables (with harder tabletop), cardboard chairs, cardboard walls and decors, paper lamps, etc. It looks like a kindergarten.
So what does Carton King’s restaurant serves? Paper hotpots on paper stove with paper sliced meat, paper seafood, paper vegetable, paper mushroom, paper fishballs… — no, those are exhibits. The restaurant serves a number of Halal-certified dishes including Taiwanese hotpots, Malaysian food, Western food, Japanese food, vegetarian, etc. Kids will love the menu in a 3D picture book.

Aside from Carton King, there is also a convenience mart, hair salon, etc, and another restaurant outside Carton King Street Mall called Tasixi Hong Kong Dim Sum (大四喜香港点心楼). Nictar has also setup a kiosk to sell its pineapple products, including bottled pineapple juice, from Pontian’s pineapple farms — I had been there, see: Pontian See: Nictar Pineapple Park @ Pekan Nanas.
As more shops open up, Carton King Street Mall will become a fun place to explore — for both kids and adults.
