Johor Bahru Eat: Ho Seng Kee Wanton Noodle (何成记自制云吞面世家) @ Taman Century

Restoran Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家) specialises in a range of noodle dishes, especially its signature wanton noodle, using its homemade egg noodle since 1936. Used to be located on the rooftop of JB City Square, the restaurant moved to a shophouse unit in Taman Century, in June 2025, and opposite Plaza Pelangi.

Ho Seng Kee has several types of noodle dishes and a long list of side dishes and beverages. Some of the noodle dishes are available as rice dishes too. All the noodle dishes can be paired with selected beverages to make set meals with discounts. Ho Seng Kee’s noodle dishes are “highly customisable” with options to select flavours, add-on ingredients, thickness / size of noodle, amount of sauce for tossing, spiciness level, etc — one dish can have over 10 combinations.

Another good news is that prices of all food items are greatly reduced after moving out from JB City Square Shopping Centre.

Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家): Menu

Unless otherwise specified, Ho Seng Kee’s homemade high-protein egg noodle, which uses 100% chicken and duck eggs, and is thin-flat rather than round, will be used in all noodle dishes by default. Usually dry-tossed with flavourful sauce, the springy noodle has crunchy texture. Their mee pok will be broader, of course.

The signature Gourmet Wantan Mee (高筋云吞面) is served with their egg noodle, tossed in selected flavour or sauce, and topped with slices of lean char siew (barbecue pork) and 5 meat dumplings. The dumplings, usually buried under the noodle to keep them moist and warm, are lightly flavoured with a mild peppery taste. The wanton noodle is a great dish to try and guarantee to be different from others.

To have more options for the type of char siew instead of the lean ones in Gourmet Wantan Mee, go for the Premium Char Siu Mee (花肉叉烧面) — available after 11am. There are options for 50% fatty, full fatty or “burnt mixed” — I opted for the “burnt mixed” for more flavours. The dry-tossed noodle, with default sauce (shallot oil, lard oil, chilli), is served with many thick cuts of char siew with mixes of lean-fat portions and light-charred outer surface. The tender lean meat with soft fatty part has nice roasty flavours. Very delicious!

The Pork Belly Mee (花肉面) has similar dry-tossed noodle with a separate bowl of soup that contains long thin slices of fresh pork belly meat, carrot and greens. The savoury soup is light in flavours and a nice way to taste the freshness of the pork belly meat.

The Prawn Dumplings Mee (虾饺面) is served with 4 big prawn dumplings in a bowl of soup with greens and dry-tossed noodle in dark sauce. The prawns are fresh and crunchy with well-balanced flavour. Fried Wantans (炸云吞) can also be added as side dish for some crispy bites.

Ho Seng Kee (何成记自制云吞面世家): More noodle dishes and side dishes

With their great-tasting homemade noodle as common bases for all noodle dishes, Ho Seng Kee can expand their menu creatively to include more delicious dishes. I will go back for different dishes each time — although I have eaten their delicious wanton noodle more times than I can remember.
