Located at one end of Jalan Keris 1 in Taman Sri Tebrau (a.k.a. Dai Mah Garden / 大马花园) is a coffee shop named Kopitiam You Yi (友谊美食中心) that houses several food stalls and one of those stalls is known as Hong Kong Porridge (香港粥). Two words “分行”, meaning “branch”, printed on the signboard implies that it has a main branch elsewhere — from a customer of the stall, the main outlet is called Restoran Kakalok Hong Kong Porridge (家家乐正宗香港粥) in Taman Johor Jaya.

Hong Kong Porridge (香港粥) is both the name of the stall and the style of porridge / congee dishes it serves. The stall offers quite a number of congee dishes with various mix of ingredients — I counted 15 items on the wall menu — and additional ingredients can be added to create more variants.

All congee dishes are of the same style — a bowl of hot savoury congee, added with specific main ingredients, and garnished with fried shallot, spring onion, coriander and some pieces of fried dough. A raw egg, more fried dough and additional ingredients can be added as charge. White pepper powder is self-service on the tables but go easy on the light soy sauce as the savoury congee has just-nice saltish level.
The Century Egg Congee (皮蛋粥) is added with cuts of century egg. Lean pork meat can be added to make it the all-familiar century egg + lean pork congee (皮蛋瘦肉粥) — which is one of my favourite breakfast options. And, I like adding an egg to give the congee extra eggy sweetness and creaminess.

The Sampan Congee (艇仔粥) has more ingredients with lean pork, soft mushroom slices, whole peanuts, dried strips of cuttlefish and thick, fresh cuttlefish tentacles — added-on a raw egg. It is a flavourful dish, as usual, with mellow flavours of mushroom and dried cuttlefish, and the tentacle is firm and tender with slight crisp texture, not chewy at all.

Note that Kopitiam You Yi is opened for the morning-afternoon session (早午市) till 2pm on its business days, closes for 4 hours and reopens at 6pm for the evening session with different set of stalls offering different local delights. Hong Kong Porridge is opened for the morning-afternoon session only.
