Getting to any districts in the northern part of Johor, Malaysia, or beyond the state of Johor is easy using long-distance bus services from Larkin Sentral or train services from JB Sentral (where applicable). Kluang District (居銮) sits in the heart of Johor and getting there from Johor Bahru is easy and convenient with the following:
Long-Distance Bus Services

Other than Kluang, you will be able to travel to Muar, Batu Pahat, Mersing, etc, within Johor or to Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, etc, beyond Johor’s border.

Train Services
Kluang is one of the few towns in Johor that has a railway station.
The Old Kluang Station has ceased operation in 2025, preserved as a historical building and became a new tourist attraction. Read: Kluang See: Old Kluang Train Station
The new Kluang (Railway) Station, with elevated railway tracks, is located right beside the old station and accessible via its own entrance a short distance down the same road. The trains that call at the new station include both the older, slower diesel-powered KTM Intercity trains and the newer, faster ETS (Electric Train Service) trains — effective from 12 Dec 2025.

Effective from 1 January 2026, the slower KTM Intercity services is as follow:
- JB Sentral to Kluang: 9:05pm
- Kluang to JB Sentral: 10:01am
- Fare: RM14 per person (one-way)
- Travelling Time: 1.5 hours
The newer, faster ETS services is as follow:
- JB Sentral to Kluang: 8:40am, 12:45pm and 4:20pm
- Kluang to JB Sentral: 11:29am, 6:49pm and 9:09pm
- Fare: Flexi-Fare System
- Travelling Time: 46~52 minutes
With the introduction of the newer ETS services from 12 December 2025, travelling time between JB Sentral and Kluang Station is reduced to around 50 minutes, making it the fastest mode of transportation between the two cities — but, half the travelling time, double the fare. The cheaper, slower KTM Intercity services is reduced to just one service (from 4 services) daily after 1st January 2026.
For day-trippers to Kluang, the ETS’s morning service at 8:40am is the best option to get to Kluang and much faster and convenient than using long-distance buses from Larkin Sentral. The service at 6:49pm may be a little late for many day-trippers and may probably have to rely on long-distance buses to return earlier. Alternatively, plan a short stay in Kluang and return using the ETS service at 11:29am the following day.
Note: The number of train services, schedules and fares are subject to changes, especially during festive seasons, refer to KTMB Online for up-to-date timings / fares. To save the hassle of going to the train station to get advance tickets, download KTMB’s official mobile app (KITS Style) from respective app stores.
Domestic Buses
If you have lots of time to spare or will like to go on an adventure to explore couple of towns in Johor on the way to Kluang, try using domestic buses. The journey is definitely longer than long-distance buses and more time-consuming but at a leisurely pace.
You can take BAS.MY J30 from JB Sentral to Kulai then switch to City Bus 2 to Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal, or take City Bus 2 from Larkin Sentral to Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal via Kulai. From Ayer Hitam Bus Terminal, take Johore Motor Bus 56 to Kluang.

Note that the total fares of using 2 or 3 domestic buses from Johor Bahru to Kluang will be around the fare of a long-distance bus direct to Kluang. So, use domestic buses to explore Kulai / Air Hitam along the journey instead of using it as a “cheap” way to get to Kluang — not to mention the long waiting and travelling time. (See schedules and fares in this post)
Do plan ahead and use either bus or train services to get to / from Kluang District.
