Mu Wu Kitchen (小木屋.厨房), or “Little Wooden Hut”, located in Kampung Atap near Pontian Kechil, has expanded from an inconspicuous little wooden hut to about 4 times its original size over the years. And is more attractive too. The chic “wooden hut” has an open and rustic ambience under a big tree and also an air-conditioned dining room, providing option for diners to choose a cooling in-door environment.

Xiao Mu Wu has several Chinese opera characters painted on its walls throughout the cafe. Lovely girls in retro costumes are also printed on the cover of iced drinks — it will be fun to collect photos of all of them.
The cafe serves light meals, such as rice / noodle dishes, western dishes, light snacks, etc, and beverages. For main dishes, there are options for chicken chop, fish steak or popcorn chicken with either rice, dry noodle (non-spicy / spicy) or mala (麻辣).

The Popcorn Chicken Mala Noodle (盐酥鸡麻辣干捞面) comes with an egg, well-fried popcorn chicken and salad. The curly noodle is dry-tossed in mala sauce that is tasty and fragrant with just-right spiciness. The popcorn chicken are crispy outside and tender inside. Delicious.

Light snacks can also be added-on as side dish. The Crispy Tofu (脆皮豆腐) with crispy skin and hot fillings is a nice snack dish to pair with any rice or noodle dishes.

The nice ambience of Mu Wu Kitchen is different from other restaurants or cafes in the area and the food is nice too. It will be great to dine under the big tree — I will do that the next time I visit Pontian.
