Update: Danlao had closed its outlets in Plantation Plaza (Tengah) and Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre.
Danlao Scrambled Egg Rice (蛋佬滑蛋饭) is a Singaporean hawker brand that specialises in Hong Kong-style scrambled egg rice bowls. Started by four young hawkers in Maxwell Food Centre, the brand serves creamy, scrambled eggs over rice with a range of main toppings like chicken cutlet, char siew, prawns, etc, as their primary offerings. Danlao has grown to become a notable chain with over 20 locations in Singapore, including JEM (Jurong East) and Senja Hawker Centre among those in the west.

The Signature Chicken Cutlet Scrambled Egg Rice is served with runny scrambled egg covering the rice, cut pieces of fried chicken cutlet on top and finished off with some sweet sauce. The nicely-fried chicken cutlet is crispy outside, tender and juicy inside with a nice flavour in the fried batter. The mixing of scrambled egg, rice and sauce has eggy flavour and not too sweet. It is a nice, hearty dish and too strong in taste.

The Charcoal Char Siew Scrambled Egg Rice is prepared similarly and topped with slices of charcoal-grilled char siew. The meat is mostly lean with a mellow charcoal-grilled aroma and has a slightly firmer texture rather than soft — it provides some biting texture rather than a dish with soft meat and soft egg. It is delicious and I like it that it is not too sweet.

Alongside the series of scrambled egg rice dishes, Danlao also offers cheesy versions as well as curry versions. I will go for them next.
