Singapore Eat: Ye Tang (椰堂) Chendol @ Beauty World

Ye Tang (椰堂) is located in one corner of the food centre on Level 4 of Beauty World Centre. Recommended by Singapore Michelin Guide since 2024, the dessert stall serves Nyonya chendol with several flavours. It is said that the owner learned to make her “absolutely authentic chendol” in Malacca.

There are 4 items on Ye Tang’s menu — with couple of new flavours written on cardboards near the cashier. Other than the original Classic Bowl (with attap seeds), there are flavours of creamy corn, red bean and durian. Any of the desserts can be added-on with corn, red bean and/or attap seeds (soft, chewy translucent-white seeds of Nipah palm).

Ye Tang (椰堂): Menu

The Red Bean Chendol is served with large red kidney beans, green jellies, palm sugar syrup (gula Melaka) and fresh coconut milk on a mount of crushed ice. The icy dessert has well-balanced flavours of the ingredients and tastes nice with just-right sweetness.

Similarly, the Creamy Corn Chendol is added with big fresh corn kernels in a thick syrup, which adds mellow sweetness and flavour of corn without increasing the overall sweetness of the dessert.

The Durian Chendol — I added attap seeds for more texture — has a rich durian flavour that does not add much sweetness to the icy dessert. The translucent attap seeds has soft, chewy texture that still offer some bites.

Ye Tang (椰堂): Durian Chendol

Durian chendol is usually the premium flavour of most chendol stalls in Singapore and Malaysia, but Ye Tang has two additional flavours / toppings: soursop and jackfruit, which can be added to any selection of chendol from the menu.

I had a Classic Chendol, with attap seeds, and added-on soursop. The sour-sweet flesh of soursop mixed in sweet chendol creates a unique taste of mellow sourness that toned down the sweetness of gula Melaka. A sweet dessert with slight sourness makes this chendol really special.

Ye Tang’s offering of chendols with options for new toppings create more combinations for different taste experiences, aside from the 4 classic flavours.
