Love Japanese Korean Cuisine (爱心日韩料理) is a new stall in Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre offering a long list of Japanese and Korean dishes. There are rice sets with saba fish and teriyaki chicken, Korean-style hotplate sets with pork / beef / chicken, bento sets with two meat ingredients, omurice sets, a series of Japanese udon / ramen, Korean ramen, gyoza, etc. And their prices are reasonable — cheaper than most foodcourts.

The Saba Fish Set (鲭鱼套餐) is served with a nicely-fried halved mackerel fish — “saba” is Japanese name for mackerel fish —, dribbled with sweet-savoury sauce plus a lime for flavour, a side of Korean kimchi, a bowl of Japanese miso soup and also a bowl of Japanese short-grain rice. The meat of the mackerel fish is juicy and sweet and most of its fried-till-crispy parts can be eaten. The kimchi has balanced tangy flavour without being too acidic or spicy. And the savoury miso soup, added with kombu (kelp), is not too salty. This is delicious!

The Beef Udon (牛肉乌冬) is served with slices of beef on Japanese udon in clear, egg-drop soup with a poached egg, greens, slices of narutomaki (Japanese steamed fish cake), tomato and kelp. The soup has rich flavours of kelp, tomato, egg and enhanced with subtle soy sauce flavour. The udon is nicely-cooked with soft, bouncy texture and slight chewiness. And the beef slices are soft and succulent. It is a nice dish without too much seasoning.

Korean and Japanese food in foodcourts are usually priced higher than others, and I am glad that Love Japanese Korean Cuisine offers their dishes at comparable prices to other stalls in Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre.
