Located near Pasar Awam Pontian (Pontian Wholesale Fish Market) at a road junction with Lorong Mariam, the first residential unit has air nira kelapa (椰花酒), or local coconut wine / toddy, for sales. A black banner with the words “Air Nira Kelapa / 椰花酒” is the sign to look for.
To buy the wine, call or Whatsapp Sam (椰酒哥) at +60 12-796 1389 before going down to the address as Sam may not be in all the time.
The coconut wine is naturally-fermented and harvested from a coconut plantation without adding wine yeast, water nor sugar. The wine is sold chilled only in 1.5L bottles at RM25 per bottle — price as of Oct 2024. It tastes rich, mild sweet and fizzy with a light fermentation aroma. The wine is best stored chilled or finished within the day if refrigeration is not available.
For Singapore residents, do consume it in Malaysia only. Other than coconut wine, Sam sells diamond coconuts (钻石香椰) for its flesh and juice too.
