Singapore Eat: Yuen Kee Dumpling (袁记云饺)

Yuen Kee Dumpling (袁记云饺), a popular dumpling chain that originates from Guangzhou in China, specialises in handmade-to-order Cantonese-style wantons and dumplings. Started in 2012, the brand has expanded to having over 4,000 outlets in China by the end of 2024. In 2025, it landed in Singapore and has since setup several outlets across the island. Two of its newest outlets is opened in Parc Point in the new Tengah estate and in West Mall, Bukit Batok.

Yuen Kee Dumpling makes at least 6 different flavours for their wantons (云吞) and dumplings (水饺), featuring different ways of wrapping with soft, thin skins and fresh ingredients. The wantons and dumplings are freshly-handmade at the stall.

Yuen Kee’s wantons and dumplings can be served as dry / soup dishes on their own or with noodle, resulting in a number of dishes. On the menu, 6 flavours of dumpling can be served on their own with Cantonese-style soup, dry with options for sauces or hot-boiled. Wantons are usually served in soup in larger quantities. Both wantons and dumplings are also paired with noodle but in smaller quantities. There are minced pork & fermented soybean paste noodle (炸酱面), pork trotter noodle (猪手面), beef brisket noodle (牛腩面) and side dishes as well.

The dry-style Shrimp & Crab Roe Pork Wanton Noodle (鲜虾蟹籽云吞面) is quite a hearty dish served with 6 pieces of relatively-big Shrimp & Crab Roe Pork Wantons on thin, springy egg noodle tossed in light sauce with bean sprouts and scallions. The wantons are stuffed with fresh, tender lean pork (not minced pork) with both shrimp and crab roes that give the wantons their mellow flavours.

The 10-piece Corn & Pork Dumpling (玉米鲜肉饺) is served with bean sprouts in the sauce-of-choice — I picked Viral Mixed Sauce with Chilli Oil (网红混酱干伴) as illustrated on the menu. The corn & pork dumplings are filled with juicy corn kernels, tender lean pork and carrot shreds, and has a firmer texture than wantons. The mixed sauce, made with peanut sauce, sesame seeds, dried chilli paste and red chilli oil, gives the dish a delightful peanut-sesame aroma and flavour with just-nice spiciness. It is a tasty and flavourful dish without having to add-on other condiments.

Yuen Kee Dumpling offers a series of condiments to accompany the dishes. Instead of the usual dried chilli paste or others as dipping sauce, try the dishes with their preserved vegetables (daikon, cucumber, peas, chilli, etc) that add crunchiness and salty-spicy flavours — however, use heavy-taste condiments moderately as they tend to mask the flavours of the dumplings.
