Johor Bahru Eats & Buys: Taman Pelangi + Newspaper Street (彩虹花园 + 报纸街)

Johor Bahru Eats: What to Eat in Taman Pelangi (彩虹花园)

Adjacent to both Taman Century and Taman Sri Tebrau, Taman Pelangi (彩虹花园) is another estate with many food options. Known as just “Pelangi” to many Singapore visitors as a “supper” place, the estate used to be livelier in the evenings as a “night food paradise” but many eating places are opening up during the day as new developments are adding more commercial functions to the estate due to the upcoming Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link.

Aside from restaurants, cafes and coffee shops offering diverse range of local dining options in Pelangi, Plaza Pelangi and Pelangi Leisure Mall are two shopping malls in the estate offering its visitors options for shopping and groceries.

Jalan Maju behind Plaza Pelangi in Taman Maju Jaya — locally-known as Newspaper Street (报纸街) due to its historical association with news distribution — is another bustling food street with more local and international food options.

Food Places

Below is a list of dining options and cafes that I/we have visited in Taman Pelangi, the Newspaper Street and also restaurants with outlets at other locations.
