Bukit Timah Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge (武吉知马砂煲活田鸡粥) is a popular restaurant for its claypot frog porridge cooked using live bull frogs. The 2-storey restaurant is located among a row of eateries along Cheong Chin Nam Road in Bukit Timah, near Beauty World MRT Station (Exit B).

The restaurant has two cooking styles for their claypot frog meat: the spicy dried chilli style and the non-spicy ginger spring onion style. The claypot frog meats are best to go with porridge that is cooked in claypot too. It will be cheaper to go for more frogs, so gather a group of 4 (due to their small tables) to enjoy claypot frog porridge at the restaurant.

There were 5 of us and we went for a claypot of Ginger Spring Onion Bull Frogs (姜葱田鸡) and two claypots of Dry Chilli Bull Frogs (宫保田鸡) with porridge served in another claypot.

The dried chilli style claypot frog is super spicy where chilli padi are added in addition to the dried chillies but the taste is very good — do inform the staff to reduce the spiciness level if you are not into too-spicy stuff. Regardless of the cooking-style, the frog meats are very tender and the dark sauce is great to go with the white porridge.

We also ordered other cooked dishes such as sambal kang kong, which is pretty spicy too, and fried eggs with prawns…

And fried pork ribs too to complete the meal. The ribs meat are tender with savoury flavours — but, the best thing is, the meat relieved some spiciness of the spicy dishes.

Overall, I like the claypot frog porridge at Bukit Timah Live Bull Frog Claypot Porridge as the tastes are good and not too-salty but I will tone down the spiciness level next time.
