Established in 2014 by Fei Siong Group, Encik Tan is a popular Halal-certified food chain offering authentic local Chinese hawker fares at affordable prices. They are best known for comfort foods like minced meat noodle, Hainanese curry rice, wanton noodle, fishball noodle, etc, served in air-conditioned environments in shopping malls well-spread across Singapore.
I frequent the outlet at West Mall and also dined at the stall in Changi International Airport Terminal 1 before taking a flight.

Encik Tan’s Signature Noodle uses thin-flat noodle (default) in dry-tossed style with a number of ingredients (two fried wantons, fried scallop, two fishballs of different types, minced chicken meat, braised mushrooms, half a hard-boiled egg and large fried anchovies). The sauce for tossing with the noodle is not salty and the flavour is further enhanced by the savoury minced meat and braised mushrooms. The two fishballs have soft, tender textures — one soft and the other slightly firmer — with the fried wantons, fried scallop and anchovies adding their flavours and crispiness. And, the hard-boiled egg is nicely-done without a greyish layer on the yolk. A wonderful dish.

The Sarawak Chicken Kolo Mee is served with chicken char siew, minced chicken meat, scallions and a big piece of cracker on springy thin noodle. Like the Signature Noodle dish, the savoury minced meat adds its flavour to the noodle with tender, sweet-juiciness of the char siew chicken. The cracker provides its crispiness and best to consume fast before it soften over time. This is another great dish to go for.

The Curry Chicken Drumstick Rice is served with a big chicken drumstick, doused with curry gravy and added with a fried egg and stir-fried white cabbage. Despite having a reddish appearance, the curry gravy is non-spicy with nice flavours and the chicken drumstick is tender.
Aside from curry chicken drumstick, choices of chicken cutlet (best-seller), fried drumstick, sambal sotong, etc, are also available to pair with rice, fried egg and cabbage.

Encik Tan’s noodle and rice dishes are healthier choices with low salt and nice flavours and at affordable prices too.
