Eng Kee Chicken Wings (荣记炸鸡翅膀) is a Singapore brand that is famous for its crispy, juicy fried chicken wings, often served with economic bee hoon or rice with side dishes. Its main outlet in Commonwealth Drive is recognised by Makansutra and the Singapore Michelin Guide for its quality and consistency in serving their dishes. The brand has a number of branches across Singapore — with a stall in Beauty World Food Centre and new stalls in Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre (Bukit Batok) and Keat Hong Shopping Centre (Choa Chu Kang).

Eng Kee’s economic bee hoon (rice vermicelli) is also highly recommended to try. I have it with a fried egg, stir-fried cabbage and a piece of their signature chicken wing. The bee hoon is well-fried with every strand of rice vermicelli evenly-coated and with mellow dark soya sauce flavour. The deep-fried chicken wing has crispy skin, with simple marinade, and its flesh is very tender and juicy indeed. Bee hoon with chicken wing are definitely must-tries at Eng Kee.

The newly-introduced Nasi Lemak Set is really aromatic — from the coconut milk-flavoured rice — when served! The rice dish is served with typical nasi lemak ingredients (crunchy peanuts, fried anchovies, sliced cucumber and nasi lemak chilli paste) and a piece of fried chicken wing. The nasi lemak chilli — different from the self-service chilli paste that is for other dishes — is thicker and tasty with a sweet-savoury-spicy flavour. The fried chicken wing is crispy, tender and juicy as usual. This dish is also great-tasting.

Eng Kee’s fried chicken wings are really crispy and juicy and great to go with noodle or rice or even eaten on its own. It is best to eat them immediately after purchase rather than letting them cool and reheating them, which may overcook them and change the texture.
