Viet Corner, a Vietnamese food stall in Wan Hao Kopitiam (万豪咖啡店) in Bukit Batok East, offers a number of Vietnamese specialties and street food, including com (rice dishes), pho (rice noodle dishes), banh mi (stuffed baguettes) and a long list of others.
The Special Beef Pho (Pho Dac Biet) is served using flat rice noodle (pho) with medium rare lean beef, beef shank and fried beef ball in aromatic soup that is flavoured with spices. A lime adds refreshing and citrusy flavour to the noodle dish and the dipping chilli sauce is specially-concocted too. The meat are tender and the fried beef ball has nice flavours. I have found another great place for delicious beef noodle.
The Grilled Pork Baguette (Banh Mi Thit Nuong) is toasted French baguette stuffed with non-oily grilled pork, fresh salad and topped with chopped red chilli and coriander. The crispy baguette is light-tasting with the tasty grilled pork as the main source of flavour and refreshing, mild-sweetness of the salad. The red chilli gives some spicy kicks but not overly spicy. Other than beef pho, banh mi has always been my other Vietnamese delight to go for.
The Hue-style Spicy Beef Noodle (Bun Bo Hue) is indeed a spicy dish, even more so when it is hot. The rice noodle soup dish has fresh raw beef slices, beef shank slices, Vietnamese ham (cha lua), water spinach, sweet shallot, bean sprouts and garnished with spring onions and a lime for citrusy flavour. The delicious soup added its light savouriness and sharp spiciness to the tender meat slices and rice noodle. The dipping chilli sauce is similarly spicy with a touch of fish sauce for enhancing flavours. As the temperature of the dish drops, the soup becomes less spicy and easier to savour all the wonderful flavours.
Viet Corner’s Vietnamese delights are authentic and delectable and there are still a lot more to try. I will go down the list one at a time, especially those dishes that I am not familiar with.
