Macau Eat: Cafe Vong Kei (旺记咖啡) @ Taipa Village

Cafe Vong Kei (旺记咖啡), established since 1958, is located along Rua Correia da Silva (告利雅施利华街) in Taipa Village of Macau and at one end of the busy street of Rua do Cunha (官也街). It is housed in a cyan-coloured structure with a takeaway counter as well as a doorway leading to a dine-in area on the second level. The traditional cafe is popular with both locals and tourists for its pork chop bun and signature iced milk tea.

Both the bottled Iced Coffee (旺记樽仔咖啡) and Iced Milk Tea (旺记樽仔奶茶) are hand-beaten beverages and highly-recommended by the cafe — and even painted on its wall outside the cafe. The “iced” milk coffee can be drank from the bottle without adding ice — there is extra charges for ice. The chilled coffee is aromatic, very smooth and not too sweet.

The Pork Chop Bun (猪扒包) has a thick pork chop sandwiched inside a bun that has crispy crust yet soft inside. The pork chop is well-fried, tender and succulent with a nice flavour from its marinade. This meat bun is delicious indeed.

Aside from its pork chop bun and bottled iced coffee / milk tea, Cafe Vong Kei’s curry beef brisket with bread is another popular dish to go for.

During peak hours, when the dine-in area is packed, it may be easier to order food and coffee from the take-away counter.
