In a back-alley called Lorong Kita off Kulai Old Street in Taman Kulai, a unique building that has three and a half levels housed a little cafe. And the name of that cafe is, aptly, Three And A Half (三层半). The family-owned, kid-friendly, cosy cafe offers a relaxed spot for breakfast or coffee / tea.

Three And A Half cafe serves mainly toasts, either hot-pressed toast sandwiches (热压土司) or grilled sandwiches (香煎土司), with beverages that include traditional kopi and teh. They have chicken porridge, fish balls and soft-boiled eggs as add-ons. And, new on the menu is a value meal set that is available on weekdays only.

There is no butter-kaya toasts here for the coffee-toast-eggs traditional breakfast. In its place will be Three And A Half’s signature sandwiches. Their kopi-O has a nice aroma, non-bitter and thick.
The Ham, Cheese & Chicken Floss Toast (hot-pressed) Sandwich (火腿肉松芝士热压土司) is probably the most flavourful sandwich with 3 ingredients. When eating it while hot, the toasts are crispy and long threads of melted cheese can be pulled from the mouth like spider web — a kids’ favourite.
The soft-boiled eggs are served ready-to-eat — no hassle in handling hot eggs or breaking the eggs too early or too late. The eggs are nicely done to the point of just-cooked with no raw albumen (egg white) and the beautiful egg yolk is still soft and molten — this is the state of soft-boiled eggs that I like best.

The new Value Meal Set comes with a selection of beverage and toasts — I picked an iced kopi-Milo and their signature Otak Cheese Toast Sandwich (乌达芝士热压土司). The sandwich is served with cherry tomatoes, a hard-boiled egg, tomato beans, cucumber slices and two chicken sausages with sesame sauce. The Otak Cheese Toast Sandwich has non-spicy otak with melted cheese in hot-pressed crispy buttered toasts and tastes really nice. This value meal set is a wonderful, healthy dish and worth it.

Three And A Half’s traditional coffee-toasts-eggs set and toast sandwiches are really flavourful. And there are more flavours to try.
