Spec Cafe is a 2-month-old Chinese Muslim cafe newly-opened at one end of the bustling Concubine Lane in Ipoh Old Town. The little cafe offers a series of cold beverages and a list of main dishes.

Aside from serving beverages and meals like other cafes, Spec Cafe has sunglasses and other glasses for sales too — which is why it is called “Spec” Cafe.

The cafe’s range of beverages includes smoothies, fruity fizz, iced coffee, iced tea, etc. In addition, there are several flavours of pudding as desserts, a series of nasi lemak dishes and also couple of Western dishes (fish & chips and chicken chop).

Unlike typical durian coffee that tastes like over-sweetened “durian candy” coffee. Spec Cafe’s Signature Musang King Durian White Coffee (招牌猫山王榴莲白咖啡) uses authentic Musang King durian pulp to blend with traditional white coffee and topped with whipped cream. It has really nice durian and coffee flavours. Definitely must try the real durian coffee!

The Special Pistachio Pudding (特制开心果布丁) is really special. It has light cheese cake sitting on pieces of crunchy whole biscuits, topped with pistachio sludge and sprinkled with mixture of crushed nuts, including pistachio. The dessert has varying textures from top to bottom, wonderful flavours and low in sweetness.

The Blueberry Smoothie uses quite a lot of blueberries to blend with yogurt, giving the beverage a rich, fruity flavour, not too sweet and very smooth.

Spec Cafe is a nice spot to take a break after visiting the Concubine Lanes. For durian and coffee lovers, it is a must to try their authentic Signature Musang King Durian White Coffee. Also, the offering of meals in the evening offers another option for dinner in the old town.
