Rotiboy Bakeshoppe is a well-known bakery-shop that serves aromatic coffee buns in both Singapore and Malaysia. Originated in Penang, the bakery has numerous outlets across Malaysia. In Johor Bahru, other than the outlet in JB Sentral, there are outlets in AEON Mall Tebrau City and Senai International Airport too. There are a handful of outlets in Singapore too — one in Westgate, the others in central and east side.
The main reason to go for Rotiboy Bakeshoppe’s buns when in Johor Bahru is the price. The other reason being that the outlet in JB Sentral is located very near the entrance / exit of JB CIQ (Johor Bahru Checkpoint), making it very accessible for Singapore visitors and hard to miss.
Rotiboy Bakeshoppe’s signature coffee bun is called “Rotiboy” and is slightly cheaper to go for 5 pieces. Other than Rotiboy, there are Buttermilkboy, Mochaboy and the Cheeseboy to try too.
Although getting 5 pieces of Rotiboys has a promotional price, it is five buns of the same flavour. Alternatively, go for all 4 of their different buns to enjoy all flavours.
Rotiboy coffee bun has a very tempting buttery-coffee aroma. It has a crispy, not-too-thick sugary-coffee top crust and a butter filling that is melted during baking. With sweet-coffee outside and buttery inside, the bun is so nice and tasty that “one is never enough”.
Buttermilkboy has a top vanilla crust with chocolate chips and savoury-sweet milky butter filling. It is the richest tasting among the different buns with several flavours.
Mochaboy, a chocolate bun, has a top coffee crust with almond bits and molten chocolate filling. The dark filling is neither bitter nor too sweet and has a very rich and nice rummy-chocolaty taste.
Cheeseboy, a cheese bun, is the latest creation and has a layer of cheddar cheese topping with a cream cheese filling. The bun has a rich savoury-cheesy flavour rather than being sweet-based like the others.
