Singapore Eat: Petit Saigon Vietnamese Street Food @ Bukit Batok

Many popular Vietnamese dishes that we are familiar with, such as pho (Vietnamese rice noodle), banh mi, etc, are served on push carts along the streets in Vietnam. And Petit Saigon, a Vietnamese food stall in Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre, serves several of those “Vietnamese Street Food”.

Petit Saigon has both chicken pho and beef pho (with either beef balls, beef slices or beef shank). Their Signature Pho Bo is one pho dish with all 3 types of beef meats. There are rice / cold rice noodles with grilled chicken or grilled pork, spring rolls, mango salad, and also banh mi (Vietnamese baguette) with various types of meat.

The Signature Pho Bo, or Beef Special Pho, is served with sliced beef shank, large slices of lean beef and two beef balls in a bowl of pho. The clear broth, boiled with beef bones, is flavoured with fresh herbs, including mint leaves, cilantro, spring onions, onions, lime (optional), etc. The pleasant and rich taste of the soup and tender, juicy meat makes the beef pho a delightful dish to go for. There is a spicy version too.

The Banh Mi Traditional (Bánh Mì Truyền Thống) is served with baguette stuffed with slices of ham, slices of chicken ham, pork floss, minced tuna and fresh salad (cucumber, carrot, white radish) with mayonnaise. The crispy baguette, crunchy salad, different flavours of meat and not-too-much mayonnaise make the banh mi a tasty and multi-texture dish. It is great as a light meal.

Similarly, the Banh Mi Chicken uses chunky grilled chicken meat as the main ingredient for the baguette with crunchy salad and mayonnaise. The light-seasoned, tender and juicy chicken has mellow grilled aroma and pairs well with the usual crispy baguette and refreshing salad.

The Grilled Pork with Cold Rice Noodle is served with pieces of tender grilled pork on cold rice noodle and topped with salad (radish, carrot, cucumber, lettuce, etc) and fried shallots as garnish. A small bowl of specially-concocted sweet sauce accompanied the dish and to be added to the rice noodle according to individual preference. The dish is flavourful and delicious — add a lime for more flavour.
