Been to Albert Centre for traditional desserts at Zheng Xing Desserts (正兴甜品)? The dessert stall is famous for its signature tau suan (豆爽) and three other traditional desserts: bubur terigu (大麦), pulut hitam (黑糯米) and green bean & sago (绿豆西米露). The great news is: Zheng Xing Desserts opened a second stall in the food court on the 4th floor of Beauty World Centre in Bukit Timah.

Their signature tau suan (豆爽 / mung beans dessert), added with pieces of cut fried dough, is a nice dessert to have at any time. The hot starchy dessert has lots of well-cooked mung beans, low in sweetness and added with slight crispiness and savoury flavour of the fried dough — take-aways not recommended as the fried dough would have turned soft.

The Pulut Hitam (黑糯米 / black glutinous rice porridge) is another hot-seller of Zheng Xing. The sweet, starchy black glutinous rice dessert is usually eaten with coconut milk (optional) for additional flavour and sweetness.

The Bubur Terigu (大麦 / sweet white wheat porridge) is cooked with sago and is mildly sweet. Coconut milk may be added for flavour and sweetness as well.

The Green Bean & Sago Dessert (绿豆西米露) is great to have on hot days and it is similarly low in sweetness with soft and fully cooked-through mung beans. Although the main ingredient is also mung beans, it offers different texture and flavours from tau suan. Similarly, coconut milk can be added for additional flavour and creaminess.

Aside from the Beauty World Centre branch outlet and the main outlet at Albert Centre (Blk 270 Queen Street, #01-64), Zheng Xing Desserts has a new outlet in Hong Lim Market & Food Centre too.
