Singapore Eat: Nyonya Chendol @ Bukit Timah

Nyonya Chendol is the first dessert stall in Singapore to be recommended by Singapore Michelin Guide. As its name implies, it offers mainly Nyonya chendol. The brand’s original outlet is in Old Airport Road Food Centre with several other branches spread around Singapore, including one at Bukit Timah Interim Hawker Centre.

Nyonya Chendol’s stall in Bukit Timah Interim Hawker Centre is the only outlet on the west side of Singapore. The stall has 4 flavours for their chendol: original (no red bean), red bean, sweet corn and durian.

The Red Bean Chendol has large amount of soft green rice flour, big red beans, palm sugar and coconut milk on a ball of crushed ice. The amount of each ingredient is well-controlled to ensure that the dessert has well-balanced flavours and just-right sweetness. The fully-cooked red beans are tender, creamy and rich in red bean flavours. It is very nice indeed.

The Durian Chendol uses a scoop of chilled durian flesh — unlike some chendols that I have tried elsewhere that use frozen durian flesh or durian-flavoured ice-cream. Similarly, this chendol is nice with wonderful real durian flavour without increasing the sweetness level.

When having a meal in Bukit Timah Interim Hawker Centre or somewhere around Beauty World, go for a bowl of delicious chendol at Nyonya Chendol instead of a cold drink.
