Xiang Yu Pan-Fried Bun (香遇生煎包) is a Chinese food stall highly-recommended for its signature pork / prawn pan-fried buns (生煎包). The stall serves other Chinese dishes, such as wantons (云吞或抄手), dumplings (水饺), xiao long bao (小笼包) and Chinese-style noodle dishes, including spiced beef noodle (五香牛肉面), minced meat noodle (炸酱面), etc.
Xiang Yu’s first outlet is located on Level 2 of the 2020-renovated Jurong West Hawker Centre (JW50) in Jurong — where I first tried their pan-fried buns.

In 2025, Xiang Yu opened its second outlet in Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre and much closer to my place where I continue trying the items on their menu.

Both of Xiang Yu’s signature Pork / Prawn Pan-Fried Buns are sold in 3 pieces per order. Before eating, poke a hole on each bun and suck out the hot soup (slowly) to prevent it from squirting out on biting and waste the delicious soup. Pair the buns with crispy chilli or ginger in vinegar to further enhance their flavours. Both types of buns offer different flavours and textures.

The Pan-Fried Pork Buns (鲜肉生煎包, 3 pieces/set) are topped with spring onions and pan-fried till crispy at the bottoms. The fresh meat, in dark sauce, and savoury soup has nice aroma and tasty with crispiness from the fried bottom.

The Pan-Fried Prawn Buns (鲜虾生煎包, 3 pieces/set) are similarly fried at the bottoms like the pork buns but are topped with fried sesame seeds. The buns are filled with crunchy fresh prawns and fresh minced pork without dark sauce. The prawn buns, with savoury soup that has distinct prawn flavour, are also tasty and delicious.

The Pork Wanton in Chilli Oil (红油抄手), in set of 8 pieces, have thin and soft wanton skins with chunky meat in a sauce, made with red chilli oil and vinegar, and garnished with fried garlic bits, fried shallots and spring onions. The wantons, with succulent pork meat, are tasty and not very spicy. This dish is also available with prawn fillings.
For any main dishes at Xiang Yu, add S$1 (promotional price) for an additional piece of their pan-fried pork bun — this is another way to try the pan-fried bun at cheaper price.

The dry-style Prawn Wanton in Chilli Oil with Noodles (鲜虾抄手拌面) has 4 pieces of prawn wantons on thin handmade noodle, added with similar concoction of red chilli oil and vinegar sauce, and garnished with fried garlic bits and scallions. The sauce is well-concocted with nice sourish-spicy-savoury flavours and also smoothen the wantons and noodle. The wantons, with succulent prawn and minced pork fillings, are tasty and delicious. The dish is tasty with nice flavours, yet not too strong-tasting. The dish is also available with pork wantons.

The Spiced Beef Noodle (五香牛肉面) is served with large slices of beef shank and greens on thin handmade noodle in flavourful stock that is prepared with spices. Supposedly a spicy dish, it is not too spicy and the spiciness enhances the flavours of the dish without making it too strong-tasting. The noodle breaks easily on each bite and non-chewy. The generous amount of tender beef meat and noodle made this a rather hearty dish — I finished the stock too.

Xiang Yu’s pan-fried pork / prawn buns are really delicious and definitely must try. And so are the other wanton / noodle dishes.
