Kota Tinggi District sits on the eastern side of Johor and encompasses the beach resort town of Desaru. The capital town of Kota Tinggi District is Kota Tinggi Town and is just 45Km from JB CIQ. Getting to the town from Johor Bahru is easy using public buses.
BAS.MY J10
BAS.MY J10 is the only public bus service, by Causeway Link, operating between JB Sentral, in Johor Bahru, and Kota Tinggi Bus Terminal, in Kota Tinggi Town. For travellers from Singapore, it will be easier to get to Kota Tinggi Town via Woodlands Checkpoint.

First of all, get to JB Sentral from Singapore:
SG-JB Bus: Singapore to JB Checkpoint, JB Sentral & JB City Square
At JB Sentral, take BAS.MY J10 to Kota Tinggi Town. The service has frequency of 20 minutes and maximum bus fare is RM5.
Effective from 30th September 2025, BAS.MY J10 no longer stops at Larkin Sentral on its way to / from Kota Tinggi. In addition, it will call at a bus-stop in Tebrau City in both directions (read on).
Tebrau City
BAS.MY J10 will stop at a bus-stop near IKEA Tebrau, around 25 minutes after departing from JB Sentral, and is one of two services to get to the cluster of shopping complexes in the area — Toppen Shopping Centre, IKEA Tebrau, AEON Mall Tebrau City and Lotus’s.

Kota Tinggi Bus Terminal
Kota Tinggi Bus Terminal, also known as Sri Lanang Bus & Taxi Terminal, has several domestic bus services to different parts of Kota Tinggi District. Bas Muafakat Johor Service PE004 plies the route between the terminal and Bandar Penawar Bus Terminal in Desaru but it is for Malaysia citizens only.
For non-Malaysians, getting to Desaru will be to use taxis / Grab cars. However, getting around or back is another issue as there are very few cabs in Desaru, especially on weekdays.

Local taxis also operate from the terminal with fix prices to a long list of destinations in West Malaysia according to a pricing board mounted in the taxi bays. For long-distance buses to Mersing or beyond the state of Johor, the ticketing counters of several bus operators are located on level 2.
